Without a copy of that book, and a screen shot of your experience, it's rather difficult to understand where you are with this.
Are you using the 2003 or 2009 edition of this book? Cocoa has changed rather a lot since 2003. Which version of XCode are you using?
As the book is almost certainly copyright, it's probably illegal to post a copy of the page on the internet. And the book is not available from our city/university library. So - can you:
1) scan/photograph the page2) take a screenshot (shift-cmd-4 (or 3))
and send them to me: robin@clanmills.com and I'll do my best to help.
If you don't have a scanner, a digital photo is probably fine, and you may want to include a few pages to give me some context. Please try not to send huge fat photos by email. You can use Preview Tools/Adjust Size... to resample the image and make them smaller, yet good enough to read.
I have the 2009 addition I have tried to take a screen shot but when I try to up load it stays at 99%
I sent you the screen shot via email. my email is oriontala1@yahoo.com
thanks
